Cumbre de la Unidad de América Latina y el Caribe

Los días 21 al 23 de febrero, la Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, México será sede de la Cumbre de la Unidad de América Latina y el Caribe. Con este encuentro, México culminará su periodo de dos años como Secretaría Pro Témpore del Mecanismo Permanente de Consulta y Concertación Política (Grupo de Río) y, al mismo tiempo, dará cumplimiento al compromiso asumido en diciembre de 2008, en Salvador, Bahía, Brasil, de realizar la Segunda Cumbre de América Latina y el Caribe sobre Integración y Desarrollo (CALC). La Cumbre de la Unidad es, por consiguiente, un espacio conjunto del Grupo de Río y de la CALC.

La Cumbre de la Unidad será un encuentro en el que participarán todos los Jefes de Estado y de Gobierno de América Latina y el Caribe y desarrollarán una agenda común de concertación política, cooperación, desarrollo e integración.

La reunión de Mandatarios será precedida de sendos encuentros de Ministros de Relaciones Exteriores y Coordinadores Nacionales y Altos Funcionarios.

Cumbre

México - CARICOM

El 21 de febrero, en Cancún, Quintana Roo, México, será sede de la I Cumbre México-CARICOM. La Cumbre será un encuentro en el que participarán todos los Jefes de Estado y/o de Gobierno de los estados miembros de la Comunidad del Caribe (CARICOM). Durante el encuentro, los mandatarios examinarán los diversos temas de la relación bilateral a fin de impulsar el diálogo político en áreas de interés mutuo.

Los Jefes de Estado y/o de Gobierno dialogarán e intercambiarán puntos de vista sobre los elementos y condiciones esenciales para avanzar con pasos firmes en el camino hacia una relación estratégica, en los ámbitos político, económico y de cooperación educativa, cultural y científico-tecnológica.

Unity Summit of Latin America and the Caribbean

On 21 to 23 February, the Riviera Maya in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo will be the venue for the Unity Summit of Latin America and the Caribbean. This event will bring to an end Mexico’s two-year period as the Pro Tempore Secretariat of the Permanent Mechanism for Political Consultation and Consensus (Rio Group) and, at the same time, will fulfill the commitment entered into in December 2008, in Salvador, Bahía, Brazil, to hold the Second Summit of Latin America and the Caribbean on Integration and Development (CALC). The Unity Summit is thus a joint forum of the Rio Group and of CALC.

The Unity Summit will be a meeting at which all the heads of state and government of Latin America and the Caribbean will be in attendance, and at which they will draw up a common agenda of political consensus-building, cooperation, development, and integration.

The meeting of heads of state and government will be preceded by meetings of ministers of foreign affairs and of national coordinators and senior officials.

Mexico – CARICOM Summit

On 21 February, in Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico will host the First Mexico – CARICOM Summit. This Summit will be attended by all the heads of state and/or government of the member states of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). At their meeting, the heads of state and government will examine the various issues within their bilateral relationship in order to further political dialogue in areas of mutual interest.

The heads of state and government will discuss and exchange views on the elements and conditions needed for them to take resolved steps along the road towards a strategic relationship in the political and economic arenas and in educational, cultural, and scientific and technological cooperation.
