MICONSULMEX: NEW CONSULAR SERVICES APPLICATION FOR MEXICANS IN THE UNITED STATES
Press Release 372
October 7, 2013
The Undersecretary for North America, Sergio Alcocer, and the Ambassador of Mexico in the United States, Eduardo Medina Mora, introduced today MiConsulmex, a consular services application for smartphones and mobile devices provided by the Mexican government. The app is available for Apple and Android platforms, and can be downloaded free of charge from both online stores.
At the Consulate General of Mexico in San Antonio, Undersecretary Alcocer and Ambassador Medina Mora accompanied several Mexican citizens while downloading the app. A recent study by the Pew Hispanic Center shows that 76% of Hispanic internet users in the U.S. access the internet through their cell phones.
MiConsulmex makes it easier to access information on the services, protection and events offered by the Mexican consular network. It connects Mexicans with their nearest consulate in an immediate and direct way, and allows them to make appointments over the internet or by phone. It also provides information on key immigration issues of current interest, such as the U.S. federal policy on “deferred action”.
