MEXICO CONDEMNS THE BREAKDOWN OF CONSTITUTIONAL ORDER IN GUINEA BISSAU

On behalf of the Mexican government, the Foreign Ministry strongly condemns the coup d'etat in Guinea Bissau and the arrest of Interim President Raimundo Pereira and Prime Minister and presidential candidate Carlos Gomes Jr. by members of the armed forces.

Mexico joins the international community in calling for those responsible for the coup to restore the constitutional order and rule of law. It also stresses the importance of ensuring that the second round of voting in the presidential elections takes place as planned on April 29th.
