THE THIRD MEETING OF THE JOINT COMMISSION FOR TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC COOPERATION AND THE FOURTH MEETING OF THE JOINT COMMITTEE ON EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL COOPERATION BETWEEN MEXICO AND THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

THE THIRD MEETING OF THE JOINT COMMISSION FOR TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC COOPERATION AND THE FOURTH MEETING OF THE JOINT COMMITTEE ON EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL COOPERATION BETWEEN MEXICO AND THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

The Foreign Ministry reports that the third meeting of the Joint Commission for Technical and Scientific Cooperation and the fourth meeting of the Joint Committee on Educational and Cultural Cooperation between Mexico and the Dominican Republic took place yesterday in Santo Domingo.

The opening event was chaired by the Deputy Minister for Planning of the Dominican Republic, Nestor Toca; and the Mexican ambassador to the Dominican Republic, José Ignacio Piña Rojas.

In their speeches, the two officials agreed on the importance of holding these meetings in order to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Mexico and the Dominican Republic in order to promote sustainable development.

The 2012-2014 technical and scientific cooperation program was approved. It consists of a portfolio of 18 projects in sectors such as agriculture, health, government administration and socioeconomic development. In addition, the parties agreed to the implementation of three cooperation projects with Haiti in protected agriculture, the fight against screwworm and the control of cholera.

During the fourth meeting of the Joint Committee on Educational and Cultural Cooperation, the previous cooperation program was evaluated and, after discussion, the 2012-2014  program for educational and cultural cooperation for 2012-2014 was approved; it will consist of 25 proposals.

Opportunities for bilateral cooperation made possible by the Yucatan Agreement were also reviewed.

These meetings renew the solidarity that has historically characterized the relationship between the two countries. In addition, progress was made towards the shared goal of sustainable development.
