Robbery in the Mexican Embassy in Venezuela Regarding this morning’s robbery of the Mexican embassy in Venezuela, the Foreign Ministry reports that: • Fortunately, no one was hurt, as the robbery took place before any of them had arrived at the embassy. • When informed by the Venezuelan authorities about the incident, a thorough investigation was requested to find the cause, identify those responsible and proceed against them as specified by the laws of Venezuela. • A diplomatic note was presented to the Venezuelan government, asking that the case be handled by the appropriate authorities and that the safety of our diplomats and their families be ensured. • The Mexican government expressed its concern to the Venezuelan government for the recent acts of violence that have affected diplomats—and especially Mexican diplomats—in Caracas. • Mexico, in close cooperation with Venezuela, is evaluating the measures that can be taken to improve security for our diplomats, their families and Mexico’s buildings in Caracas. The Foreign Ministry thanks the Venezuelan authorities for acting so swiftly and willingly with regard to this case. |
