THE G20 SHERPAS HOLD A THIRD PREPARATORY MEETING PRIOR TO THE LOS CABOS LEADERS’ SUMMIT IN JUNE • A third meeting of the G20 Sherpas begins today. • For the next two days, the Sherpas, representing the G20 Heads of State and Government, will review the progress that has been made on the agenda’s priority issues. • Based on the work done over the past months, the Sherpas will begin drafting the final declaration to be signed by the G20 Leaders. The Sherpas will review the progress that has been made during the various meetings that have been held, reaching agreements in areas such as finance, growth, employment, food security, trade, development, the fight against corruption and green growth. Given the currently complex state of the world economy, this meeting will also allow the Sherpas to review the helpful contributions made by the various groups that have met with the Mexican presidency, including NGOs, businessmen, unions, academics, youths, countries that are not members of the G20 and international and regional organizations. Officials from the international organizations that are actively contributing to the work of the G20, such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the UN and the OECD, will also participate in the discussions. These contributions will help the Sherpas to begin drafting the final declaration that will be adopted by the leaders in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur in June. The G20 represents about 90 percent of global GDP, 80 percent of world trade and two thirds of the world’s population, and is considered to be the most important informal forum for economic agreement today. Mexico is proud to chair this group of the world’s 20 major economies, thereby helping to coordinate public policies aimed at restoring stability, growth and employment. |
