MEXICO JOINS THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY IN CONDEMNING THE VIOLENCE IN SYRIA On behalf of the Mexican government, the Foreign Ministry expresses its deep concern and condemns the acts of violence committed in the city of Houla (El-Houleh) on May 25th in which more than one hundred civilians, including 32 children, were killed, many of them executed. Mexico also takes the position expressed yesterday by the UN Security Council in condemning “in the strongest terms” the violence in Syria and it agrees that the attacks against the civilian population are in violation of the applicable international law and Security Council resolutions 2042 and 2043 that call for an end to all forms of violence by all of the parties involved in the conflict. Mexico reiterates its support for the plan of Kofi Annan, Joint Special Envoy of the UN and the League of Arab States, for achieving a peaceful solution of the conflict and an end to the violence, and it urges the Syrian authorities and opposition to respect their obligations under the plan. |
