THE EIGHTH MEXICO-CANADA PARTNERSHIP MEETING IS HELD IN OTTAWA

This afternoon, the eighth Mexico-Canada Partnership meeting was inaugurated in Ottawa by co-chairs Ambassador Julian Ventura, Mexican Undersecretary for North America, and William Crosbie, Assistant Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada.
Since 2004, the partnership has been the main forum for dialogue between the public and private sectors of both countries. It seeks to strengthen cooperation in various areas of priority for both governments and to strengthen bilateral and regional trade and other economic exchanges.

In his opening address, Undersecretary Ventura stressed the diverse and strong relationship between Mexico and Canada. He stressed that both countries have used the partnership and worked together to, among other actions, increase investment in human capital development, strengthen job and youth mobility programs, increase understanding between key agencies and take advantage of business opportunities in areas of priority for both countries.

The discussions will continue tomorrow, as the following groups meet: human capital, trade, investment and innovation, energy, environment and forests, job mobility, and housing and urban sustainability. For scheduling reasons, the agribusiness group will hold its next meeting in the next few days.

The meeting comes during Foreign Secretary Patricia Espinosa’s visit to Ottawa to meet tomorrow to meet with Foreign Minister John Baird.
