A MEXICO-JAPAN INITIATIVE TO STRENGTHEN THE AUTOMOTIVE SUPPLY CHAIN • The project links technical cooperation with development. • Innovative, decentralized binational public-private initiative A protocol that signals the start of a Mexico-Japan cooperation project to strengthen the automotive industry supply chain in three states was signed today in the Foreign Ministry. The initiative focuses on technical cooperation that aims for more and better coordination between the various actors involved in the automotive industry supply chain in both countries: Japanese suppliers of major OEMs of that nation and Mexican auto parts producers. This is one of the most ambitious and innovative bilateral programs that Mexico and Japan have mbarked upon in recent years. It includes the private sectors of both countries in addition to federal and state government agencies and reflects the excellent and strong relationship that has been achieved between Mexico and Tokyo. This three-year program is expected to create jobs, provide job training and increase the competitiveness of those involved, taking a pragmatic approach to sustainable development. The protocol, will enable the project to get underway, was signed by representatives of the Foreign Ministry’s Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). ProMéxico and government officials from the states of Guanajuato, Nuevo Leon and Queretaro—where the project will be implemented—were present as co-signers. The Japanese delegation also included other JICA officials and representatives from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Japanese embassy, the Foreign Trade Organization (JETRO) and the consulting office, Japan Development Service (JDS). |
