MEXICO SUPPORTS THE CONSTITUTIONAL AND DEMOCRATIC ORDER IN PARAGUAY

Regarding the impeachment trial of Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo, the Foreign Ministry, on behalf of the Mexican government, states:

1. - The Mexican government is following closely and with concern the situation in Paraguay.

2.-Mexico is also following closely President Lugo’s impeachment trial and is confident that all stages of the trial will be carried out in strict compliance with the existing constitutional provisions and democratic principles and with respect for human rights as stipulated in the applicable international instruments.

3.-The Mexican government hopes that, if the Paraguayan legislature so decides, President Lugo receives due process with all of the guarantees established by law.

4.-Lastly, Mexico wishes to express its solidarity with the people and constitutional government of Paraguay, and hopes that this domestic issue is resolved legally and harmoniously.
