MEXICO APPEARS BEFORE THE INTERAMERICAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS

The Mexican government today attended a private hearing convened by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights to report on its progress in complying with the court’s ruling on the Rosendo Radilla Pacheco case.

During the hearing, the Mexican government explained to the court the steps it has taken to comply with the ruling, especially those related to psychological counseling for the Radilla family and the health care it has been offered as part of the comprehensive reparations.

The Mexican government also reiterated its readiness to again circulate Rosendo Radilla Pachecho’s biography and present it at a public event. It also reported on the progress being made in the investigations being conducted by the civil prosecutor.

The Mexican government also brought to the attention of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights that fact that, since June 13, there has been an agreement with the victims and their representatives to periodically give them copies of the preliminary investigation, only reserving the personal information of the suspects and witnesses.

The Inter-American Court thanked the Mexican government for the information and acknowledged it efforts to comply with the ruling.

The Mexican delegation was headed by the Interior Ministry’s Undersecretary for Legal Affairs and Human Rights, Max Alberto Diener Sala, and included representatives from the Attorney General's Office and the Foreign Ministry.

Mexico reaffirms its commitment to comply with and fully implement the resolutions issued by the Interamerican Court of Human Rights.
