AMBASSADOR NORMA PENSADO IS APPOINTED UNDERSECRETARY FOR LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN The Foreign Ministry reports that President Felipe Calderón has appointed Ambassador Norma Pensado Moreno as Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean, effective today. Ambassador Pensado Moreno has been a career diplomat since 1991 and was promoted to ambassador in 2006. She holds a degree in Economics from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM). In the Foreign Ministry, she has held various positions, including Director General for Europe and Director for Cultural Affairs. She has also worked at the Mexican Commission for Cooperation with Central and the Directorate General for Multilateral Economic Relations. She has been the Director General for Latin America and the Caribbean since April 2011. Abroad, she has served as Mexico’s ambassador in Sweden (concurrent in Latvia and Lithuania) and Alternate Representative in Mexico’s mission to the United Nations organizations in Vienna, Austria. She has also worked at Mexico’s mission to the OECD in Paris. Ambassador Pensado Moreno replaces Ambassador Jorge Castro-Valle Kuehne who resigned the post for health reasons and to ensure his full recovery. The Foreign Secretary thanks Ambassador Castro-Valle for the dedication, professionalism and commitment with which he carried out his duties as Undersecretary, and has asked him to become her special advisor. |
