THE MEXICAN G20 SHERPA, AMBASSADOR LOURDES ARANDA, MEETS WITH CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS TO DISCUSS THE OUTCOME OF THE G20 SUMMIT

• National and international civil society organizations applauded the role of the Mexican presidency in promoting and conducting an open and transparent dialogue.

• Ambassador Lourdes Aranda stressed the importance of the participation of civil organizations, saying that their analysis, proposals and documents were valuable to the Mexican presidency of the G20.

Mexico’s G20 Sherpa, Ambassador Lourdes Aranda; the Chief of Staff to the Undersecretary of Finance, Dr. Hugo Garduño Arredondo; and the Foreign Ministry’s Director General for Civil Society Organizations, Miguel Diaz Reynoso, chaired the meeting, explaining that it was being held to fulfill the commitment made by the Foreign Secretary to the civil society organizations on June 16 in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur to continue informing them about the results of the G20 summit that was held on June 18-19.

Undersecretary Aranda presented an overview of the agreements reached on issues that corresponded to the Sherpas: trade, employment and social protection, development, food security, green growth and the fight against corruption. Dr. Garduño explained the main economic and financial results: the Los Cabos Action Plan for Growth and Jobs, the expansion of IMF resources, financial inclusion and finding sources of funding for climate change.

The civil society representatives congratulated the Mexican Presidency of the G20 for the outcome of the Summit and applauded the government’s openness, willingness to hold discussions and its efforts to include their issues and agendas in the Los Cabos Declaration.

The Foreign Ministry agreed to hold discussions on various topics with civil society in the near future to discuss the specific commitments adopted in Los Cabos.
