FIRST MEETING OF THE PACIFIC ALLIANCE COOPERATION AGENCIES · Directors of the cooperation agencies of Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru stressed the importance of development cooperation for the integration of the Pacific Alliance. · They will cooperate jointly to assist third countries and regions in sectors that are key for development. The first meeting of the Pacific Alliance cooperation agencies was held in the Foreign Ministry to outline strategies for long-term cooperation within the alliance. The heads of the Presidential Agency for International Cooperation of Colombia; the International Cooperation Agency of Chile; the Peruvian International Cooperation Agency and the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation, Rogelio Granguillhome, were present at the meeting. During their discusions, the cooperation directors of the Pacific Alliance agreed to develop a strategic and long-term vision for development cooperation, so that it becomes an additional motor for the integration of the alliance. They agreed to more closely align the existing cooperation agenda with the alliance's priorities (integration and competitiveness) to make their cooperation more relevant and more important to the member countries. The cooperation projects renewed by the cooperation directors include one on academic mobility, another for a network of scientific research on climate change and a third on promoting and enhancing the competitiveness and innovation of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). They also agreed to launch two new projects: one on green growth and the other on regulatory governance. In the area of triangular cooperation, the heads of the four agencies indicated their intention to promote joint cooperation projects through the Pacific Alliance to assist other countries and regions in areas and issues of common interest. |
