THE UN CREATES A HIGH-LEVEL PANEL ON THE POST-2015 DEVELOPMENT AGENDA • United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced the composition of the panel, on which Mexican Foreign Secretary Patricia Espinosa was invited to participate. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced on July 31st the creation of a High Level Panel on the Post-2015 Development Agenda. The panel will make proposals for a new post-2015 global development agenda based on the progress made with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) established by the United Nations for the 15-year period from 2000 to 2015. The panel will be co-chaired by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono; Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf; and UK Prime Minister David Cameron. It will consist of 24 representatives from as many countries, from the governmental, private and academic sectors, including Mexican Foreign Secretary Patricia Espinosa. The panel will hold its first meeting in late September during the 67th UN General Assembly and will make its report to the Secretary-General in mid-2013. |
