MEXICO WELCOMES THE TRANSFER OF POWER IN LIBYA

On behalf of the Mexican government, the Foreign Ministry celebrates the transfer of power to the Libyan General National Congress on August 8th, the culmination of July’s elections in which the Libyans freely exercised their vote in the first elections held in 40 years.

Mexico hopes the legislators continue the transition process in an atmosphere of peace and legality and reiterates its support for strengthening the rule of law in Libya. It also recognizes the important role played by the National Transitional Council in helping to build a pluralistic and democratic society.
