MEXICAN ARMY AND AIR FORCE PERSONNEL RECEIVE TRAINING IN PEACE OPERATIONS • The Foreign and Defense Ministries organized a seminar on peace operations for various ministries. The Ministries of Defense (SEDENA) and Foreign Affairs report that from August 21-23 a seminar on peace operations was held at the War College. The seminar was organized by the Foreign and Defense Ministries and was taught by specialists from the Pearson Centre in Canada, which promotes peaceful, stable and well-running societies and provides peace and security strategies and solutions to governments, agencies and corporations. The seminar was held with assistance from the Canadian government as part of the Pearson Centre’s Latin America Peacekeeping Partnership Project. At the seminar, various aspects of peace operations were reviewed and discussed, with particular emphasis on the challenges faced by potential contributors to these missions, as well as the benefits and knowledge that can be acquired while participating. In order to improve the preparedness of the military in these areas, the Defense Ministry participated in the seminar so that the Army and Air Force would learn about the procedures involved in these operations. Representatives from various government agencies participated, including the Navy, the Ministry of Public Security, the National Human Rights Commission, National Women's Institute and the Senate. A representative from the UN Peacekeeping Operations also participated.
