THE FOREIGN MINISTRY SUPPORTS FINDING AND PROSECUTING THE KILLER OF A MEXICAN CITIZEN IN CROATIA 

On August 22nd, a Mexican tourist disappeared in the woods near Split, Croatia and the incident was reported to police there by her brother. On August 25, police confirmed the discovery of a partially buried body along with several of its belongings. Preliminary evidence suggests that it is the body of the missing Mexican tourist. The police believe it is a homicide and are searching for the perpetrator of the crime.

The Mexican embassy in Hungary became aware of the case on August 23rd and instructed Mexico’s Honorary Consul in Split to provide consular assistance to the victim's brother. The head of the embassy’s consular section has been in Split since August 27th to provide additional assistance.

The Mexican embassy and the Foreign Ministry’s Protection Department have maintained contact with the victim’s mother and will provide her with all necessary support as well as legal advice, if needed.

The Mexican embassy will remain in communication with the Split police in order to follow the progress of the investigation and help the family through the legal proceedings.
