FOREIGN SECRETARY ESPINOSA AND U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE CLINTON SIGN A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING ON GENDER EQUALITY

Mexican Foreign Secretary Patricia Espinosa and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Department of State for the Promotion of Gender Equality, the Empowerment of Women and Women’s Human Rights today in Washington, D.C.

The document reaffirms the commitment of both foreign ministries to fully integrate gender equality into the bilateral relationship. This is a framework agreement that will allow both governments to identify future cooperation initiatives, the execution of which will be carried out in coordination with the agencies concerned.
 
Foreign Secretary Espinosa was accompanied by Mexico’s ambassador to the United States, Arturo Sarukhan, and Undersecretary for North America Julian Ventura. Secretary of State Clinton was accompanied by the U.S. Ambassador in Mexico, E. Anthony Wayne, and Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Roberta Jacobson.
