CONDOLENCES ON THE DEATH OF PERUVIAN POET ANTONIO CISNEROS

The Foreign Ministry expresses its condolences to the people and government of Peru for the death today in Lima of the poet and writer Antonio Cisneros.

A prominent Latin American writer, Cisneros won the Casa de las Americas, Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda Ibero-American Poetry Awards, among others. His work—especially his poetry—is well-known at universities throughout the Americas and Europe, where he also gave classes. He also headed the Garcilaso Inca Cultural Center of the Peruvian Foreign Ministry.
