MEETING OF THE UNDERSECRETARY FOR LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN, NORMA PENSADO, WITH THE VENEZUELAN DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER VERONICA GUERRERO During the 38th meeting of the Latin American Council of the Permanent Secretariat of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), held in Caracas, Venezuela, Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean, Ambassador Norma Pensado Moreno, met with Venezuelan Deputy Minister Veronica Rodriguez Guerrero. The two officials talked about various bilateral political, economic and trade issues, reaffirming the interest of their respective governments in giving renewed impetus to the bilateral relationship. They also pledged to take the necessary steps to revive and strengthen the existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms. Regarding economic and trade issues, the diplomats assessed the state of the bilateral trade relationship and the situation of Mexican companies with investments in Venezuela, and they confirmed the readiness of both countries to continue exploring ways to increase bilateral trade and investment and to ensure legal certainty for Mexican and Venezuelan companies. On a regional level, they discussed the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and reaffirmed their commitment to continue promoting integration mechanisms such as CELAC and SELA, among others. Lastly, Undersecretary Pensado reiterated the Mexican government’s congratulations to the Venezuelan people and government for the recent elections there, saying that our country was ready to further strengthen its friendly ties with Venezuela.
