PATHWAYS TO PROSPERITY IN THE AMERICAS’ FIFTH MINISTERIAL MEETING

The Foreign Ministry’s Executive Director of the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID), Ambassador Rogelio Granguillhome, led the Mexican delegation that attended the 5th Ministerial Meeting of the Pathways to Prosperity in the Americas in Cali, Colombia.

Ambassador Granguillhome reiterated Mexico's commitment to ensuring that the benefits of trade and the free market reach the most vulnerable sectors of society, promoting inclusive prosperity and social justice.

He said that only in an environment of security and social stability is it possible to achieve the sustainable development of our economies and to distribute the rewards of inclusive economic growth more equitably.

Ambassador Granguillhome also stressed the interest of the President Felipe Calderon’s administration in strengthening Mexico’s economic and trade relations with the countries of the hemisphere, convinced as it is of the region’s potential to become very competitive, able to innovate and to strengthen its productivity.

He said that it is essential to promote bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation at the various forums. In addition, and with support from international development banks, the Pathways to Prosperity in the Americas trade initiatives and the measures to strengthen MSMEs should be coordinated with other regional integration programs such as the Mesoamerica Integration and Development Project.

At the conclusion of the meeting, it was announced that the sixth Ministerial Meeting of the Pathways to Prosperity in the Americas would take place in Panama in 2013.
