THE AID AGENCIES OF MEXICO AND PERU SIGN A COOPERATION AGREEMENT

• This is the first agreement signed by AMEXCID with a foreign aid agency.

• Subregional cooperation must be increased via the Pacific Alliance.

• The current bilateral cooperation program consists of 17 projects, grouped around three priorities: the environment, social development and science and technology.

In order to review the bilateral relationship for development cooperation between Mexico and Peru and to sign an agreement to strengthen this cooperation, the Executive Director of the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID), Rogelio Granguillhome, met with the head of the Peruvian International Cooperation Agency (APCI), Luis Olivera.

Mr. Olivera learned about AMEXCID by meeting with the directors of its various divisions. He also reviewed the program’s 17 projects, which are grouped around three priorities: the environment, social development and science and technology. The projects are making progress towards their goals in accordance with the 2012-2014 agenda.

The two directors also discussed other aspects of the two countries’ cooperation under various triangular and subregional programs, for example, one triangular aid program with Germany (on the management of contaminated sites in Peru), and some with Chile and Colombia within the Pacific Alliance in areas such as the environment, tourism and small and medium businesses. The Executive Directors of both agencies agreed on the need for progress in subregional cooperation within the Pacific Alliance.

After taking note of the increasingly dynamic relationship between Mexico and Peru, and in order to establish a suitable institutional framework, Rogelio Granguillhome  and Luis Olivera signed an interinstitutional agreement to strengthen the management of international cooperation between AMEXCID and APCI. This is the first cooperation agreement signed by AMEXCID with another international development cooperation agency.
