THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT ACKNOWLEDGES THE RULING AGAINST A FORMER U.S. BORDER PATROL AGENT FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING A MEXICAN CITIZEN

The Foreign Ministry acknowledges the October 23rd conviction of former Border Patrol agent Luis Edward Hermosillo by a Superior Court of California for sexually assaulting a Mexican citizen. After pleading guilty, he was sentenced to eight years in prison. The crime was committed in 2009, when the agent was still active.

The Mexican government has followed the case from the beginning and has provided the required support. The civil case brought by the victim for damages continues with the support of the Foreign Ministry’s specialized legal assistance program.

The Mexican government, through its embassy and consulates in the United States, will continue to provide all necessary consular assistance and protection to its citizens to ensure respect for their fundamental rights, regardless of their immigration status.
