"STATE REFORM IN MEXICO: AN AVENUE OF AGREEMENTS" As part of the cooperation agreement between the Foreign Ministry and the National Conference of Governors (CONAGO) and in commemoration of the Bicentennial of the Constitution of Cadiz, "State Reform in Mexico: An Avenue of Agreements," coordinated by CONAGO, was presented today in the Matías Romero Institute. As chairman of CONAGO’s State Reform Committee, Durango Governor Jorge Herrera Caldera led the presentation of a first effort to condense into five basic documents the legislative diagnosis and proposals for undertaking structural reforms to strengthen the Mexican State. Drafting of the diagnosis and its implementation has been delegated to José Alberto Aguilar Iñárritu due to his legislative and academic careers in the study of Mexico’s political development. Aware of the importance of reflecting from a foreign policy point of view the changes and commitments made by Mexico at the national level, the Foreign Ministry offered to host the presentation, which was attended by the diplomatic corps accredited in Mexico, state representatives, Foreign Ministry officials, legislators, students and academics. CONAGO pledged to follow up on and to implement the agreements entered into by the Mexican governors. As the Foreign Ministry’s liaison with local governments, the Director General for Policy Coordination, Betina Chávez Soriano, helped organize the event. She took the opportunity to thank the CONAGO for its support during the current administration and she reiterated the continued commitment of the Foreign Ministry to work together with all levels of government to strengthen the Mexican state as a whole and to improve Mexico’s image abroad.
