MAREK KELLER IS AWARDED THE AZTEC EAGLE

• On behalf of the Mexican government, Ambassador Lourdes Aranda awarded the Insignia of the Order of the Aztec Eagle to Marek Keller.

• The Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle is awarded in recognition of foreigners who have made important contributions to Mexico.

• Keller has increased awareness of Mexican culture.

On behalf of the Mexican government, Undersecretary Foreign Affairs Lourdes Aranda awarded the Insignia of the Order of the Aztec Eagle to Marek Keller, a prominent collector, philanthropist, promoter and admirer of Mexican culture.

Born in Poland, Keller has promoted Mexico’s culture in Asia, Europe and the United States. He has focused on promoting the work of one of the most important 20th century Mexican artists: the painter, sculptor and plastic artist from Jalisco, Juan Soriano.

Keller curated and worked with museums to present over 75 national and international exhibitions of the work of Juan Soriano. In 2009, the Juan Soriano Sculpture Garden opened in Owczarnia, Poland. This seven-hectare sculpture garden contains 14 monumental bronzes and a gallery for temporary exhibitions of other Mexican artists.

During the award ceremony in the Foreign Ministry’s museum, Ambassador Aranda highlighted Keller’s life story of Keller, who developed an interest in the fine arts as a boy. She emphasized his entrepreneurial vision and foresight, and his hospitality and generosity to Mexican and foreign artists. She further mentioned his contribution to bringing Poland and Mexico closer together through culture.
The Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle is an award given by the Mexican government to foreigners in recognition of their significant contributions to the Mexican nation.
