THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT EXTENDS ITS SYMPATHY TO THE PEOPLE AND GOVERNMENT OF GUATEMALA

The Mexican government extends its deep sympathy to the people and government of Guatemala for the loss of life and property damage that resulted from this morning’s strong earthquake, whose epicenter was located off the Pacific Coast in Champerico, Retalhuleu, Guatemala, on the border with Mexico.

The Mexican government conveys its most sincere condolences to the families of the victims, and is sure that the Guatemalan people will soon recover from this event. Mexico is ready for any request for assistance from the Guatemalan authorities.

Lastly, our embassy in Guatemala City and consulates in Tecún Umán and Quetzaltenango have reported that to date there are no reports of Mexicans resident or traveling in Guatemala having been affected by the quake.
