THE MEXICAN NAVY SHIP PAPALOAPAN SAILS FROM VERACRUZ WITH HUMANITARIAN AID FOR CUBA • The Mexican government has sent humanitarian aid to Cuba for families affected by Hurricane Sandy. • 163 tons of fiber cement roofing were sent. • The ship will arrive in Santiago de Cuba on November 18th. On behalf of the Mexican government, the Foreign Ministry has sent 163 tons of fiber cement roofing to Cuba to help rebuild the roofs of about 750 houses. The humanitarian aid was sent in response to a request made by Cuba through its Foreign Ministry and the Cuban embassy in Mexico for help for the approximately 200,000 families whose housing was damaged by Hurricane Sandy. The Mexican naval ship carrying the building materials will arrive in Santiago de Cuba on November 18, where it will deliver the aid with the participation of the Mexican diplomats in Cuba and local authorities. By sending this aid, the Mexican government renews its commitment to the people and government of Cuba, consistent with its policy of cooperation towards Latin America and the Caribbean.
