MEXICO EXPRESSES ITS DEEP CONCERN REGARDING THE SITUATION IN THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO

On behalf of the Mexican government, the Foreign Ministry expresses its concern for the alarming deterioration of the security and humanitarian situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, following the M23 rebel group's military offensive in the city of Goma.

Mexico condemns the rebel group’s military offensive and expresses its solidarity with the Congolese people, who have borne the brunt of the new escalation of violence in the east, and stresses the urgent need to fully respect human rights and international law.

The government of Mexico calls on all of the parties to use their influence to halt the attacks by M23. Mexico supports the efforts of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region and reiterates its full support for the work of United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO).
