THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT WELCOMES THE RULING IN A CHILD CUSTODY CASE IN NORTH CAROLINA INVOLVING A MEXICAN CITIZEN The Foreign Ministry (SRE) welcomes yesterday’s ruling by a North Carolina judge that restores custody of his three children to Felipe Bautista Montes, a Mexican citizen. The children will be able to rejoin their father and eventually return to Mexico. The Mexican Consulate in Raleigh assisted Mr. Montes throughout the proceedings. He was given the necessary consular assistance and protection in order to enter the United States and to be present during the trial with adequate legal representation. This enabled him to defend himself and to demonstrate his ability to take care of his children. The Mexican government, through its embassy and consulates in the U.S., will continue to provide guidance and consular services to all Mexican citizens who need it, regardless of their immigration status. It also reiterates its commitment to the interests of Mexican children in custody cases. |
