PRESIDENT FELIPE CALDERON MAKES FOREIGN SECRETARY PATRICIA ESPINOSA AN AMBASSADOR EMERITUS

The Foreign Ministry reports that President Felipe Calderon Hinojosa has named Ambassador Patricia Espinosa, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, an Ambassador Emeritus of Mexico.

The Mexican Foreign Service Act allows for the appointment of up to five Ambassadors Emeritus from among those career ambassadors who have dedicated at least 25 years to the Foreign Service and have made an important contribution to it, or who have completed a minimum of 10 years of service and have served as Secretary of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Espinosa has 31 years of continuous service in the Mexican Foreign Service and served as Foreign Secretary for President Calderon’s entire administration. She has also served as ambassador of Mexico to Austria and Germany and Director General of Regional American Organizations. In the Permanent Mission of Mexico to the UN, she was in charge of human rights. She has served in many other positions as well.
