PRESIDENT FELIPE CALDERON MAKES SANDRA FUENTES BERAIN AMBASSADOR EMERITUS

The Foreign Ministry reports that President Felipe Calderon Hinojosa has made Ambassador Sandra Fuentes Berain Villeneve, current ambassador of Mexico to Belgium and Mexican Representative to the EU, Ambassador Emeritus of Mexico.

Ambassador Fuentes Berain has ben a career diplomat for more than 40 years. Over the course of her career she has been Mexico’s ambassador to Canada, France and Netherlands, and Consul General in Hong Kong and Milan. In the Foreign Ministry, she has served as Director General for the Pacific and Western Europe, among other posts.

The Foreign Service Act allows for the president to appoint up to five ambassadors emeritus in recognition of their outstanding careers. Ambassador Fuentes Berain joins the four current Ambassadors Emeritus of Mexico: Antonio de Icaza González, José Gallástegui Contreras, Sergio González Gálvez and Patricia Espinosa.
