THE SENATE RATIFIES THE APPOINTMENT OF MEXICO’S AMBASSADOR TO RUSSIA

The full Senate unanimously ratified the appointment of Ambassador Rubén Beltrán Guerrero as Mexico’s ambassador to Russia, and concurrently to Armenia and Belarus.

Ambassador Beltrán explained the details of his agenda to the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and European Foreign Affairs, stressing a stronger political dialogue, trade diversification and an effort to increase tourism to Mexico.

The ambassador emphasized the strategic value of the relationship with Russia, which is the ninth-largest economy in the world and, he said, one of the most important actors on the world stage.

Mexico’s new ambassador to Russia has been a career diplomat since 1981. He was promoted to ambassador in April 2005. He has been Mexico’s Consul General in New York and Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean, among other posts.
