During the ceremony, attended by diplomats from embassies in Mexico and Foreign Ministry officials, all those who successfully completed the course were given certificates.

The Spanish courses for foreign diplomats began in 2008. The courses are given in Mexico to young diplomats who may be assigned in Spanish-speaking countries.

This year, the participating diplomats came from Albania, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Estonia, Guyana, Haiti, Hungary, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malawi, Pakistan, Suriname, Sierra Leone, Turkey and Uganda.

The program is taught at the UNAM’s Center for Foreign Students (CEPE) and is designed to develop communication skills in Spanish for young diplomats and to increase their understanding of Mexican culture.

The young diplomats visited the Diego Rivera Anahuacalli Museum, Teotihuacán and other archaeological sites.
