MEXICO CONTINUES TO ASSIST GUATEMALA IN AIDING EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS

• Mexico continues to assist those Guatemalans affected by the earthquake last November.

• Food, blankets and cots are part of the aid given by the Mexican embassy.

As part of the aid given by the Mexican government to Guatemala for those affected by the November 7 earthquake in southern Guatemala, Mexico’s ambassador in Guatemala, Juan Carlos Tirado Zavala, delivered a donation of over 2,737 food packages; 6,534 blankets and 554 cots with cotton mattresses. Herdez, a Mexican company, also donated 14.5 tons of canned goods that will be distributed to communities in the department of San Marcos.

The aid was received by the Executive Director of Guatemala’s National Disaster Reduction Coordination  (CONRED), Alejandro Maldonado, who thanked the Mexican government and Herdez for their support. He stressed that the food delivered by Herdez will be very well received by the towns affected by the earthquake.

Ambassador Tirado Zavala reiterated Mexico’s solidarity with Guatemala and thanked Herdez for its gesture.

This was the last delivery of the relief operation begun by the Mexican government on Thursday, November 28, when it quickly began to deliver supplies to the areas affected by the earthquake.
