FOREIGN SECRETARY MEADE MEETS WITH THE MAYOR OF DENVER, COLORADO (UNITED STATES)

Foreign Secretary José Antonio Meade met today with the Mayor of Denver, Michael Hancock. The Mayor is leading a delegation of officials and businessmen to Mexico City.

During the meeting, Foreign Secretary Meade discussed the areas for governmental action identified by President Enrique Peña Nieto. He stressed the importance of promoting and strengthening Mexico’s ties with diverse actors in the United States in order to achieve the goals set by the federal government.

The two officials agreed on the importance of broadening and strengthening the economic relationship in order to benefit both societies. Mexico is the second largest international market for products from Colorado and its third largest source of imports. Denver is one of the main distribution centers in the United States for large Mexican firms, which have established bases of operation there.

Foreign Secretary Meade praised Mayor Hancock’s long record of championing the civil rights and the integration of immigrant communities, especially Mexican ones. They agreed to strengthen cooperation on issues of shared interest between city officials and the Mexican consulate in Denver.

Before meeting with the Foreign Secretary, Mayor Hancock held a working meeting with the Undersecretary for North America, Julian Ventura.

The Mexican government reiterates its commitment to cooperation and shared responsibility in North America, and to promoting the interests of the Mexican communities abroad.
