MEXICO IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE MISSILE LAUNCH OF THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF KOREA On behalf of the Mexican government, the Foreign Ministry expresses its concern for North Korea’s decision to launch a long-range missile. Mexico again calls on the countries the region to comply with Security Council Resolutions 1718 (2006) and, in particular, 1874 (2009), which require North Korea to suspend missile launches. Both resolutions were adopted under Chapter 7 of the United Nations Charter. In view of the efforts of the international community to encourage an atmosphere of peace and cooperation on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia, Mexico regrets these actions. They complicate new attempts to establish a regional dialogue and cooperation. Mexico is following closely the discussions being held by the Security Council on this issue in order to contribute to the efforts to maintain peace and security in the region. It hopes that the Six-Party Dialogue on the denuclearization of the peninsula makes progress and it again calls for a climate of peace, stability and progress in the region.
