THE SENATE RATIFIES THE APPOINTMENT OF BEATRIZ PAREDES AS AMBASSADOR TO BRAZIL

With 112 votes in favor, no votes against and one abstention, the Senate ratified the President`s appointment of Beatriz Paredes Rangel as Ambassador to Brazil.

For two and a half hours before the Joint Committees on Foreign Affairs and Foreign Affairs of Latin America and the Caribbean, Ms. Paredes answered the questions of more than 20 senators.

In her opening remarks, she said that a strong relationship between Mexico and Brazil would result in a more united Latin American and Caribbean region. In response to comments from lawmakers, the recently ratified ambassador to Brazil promised to promote a close economic and cultural relationship and to encourage more investment. She stressed the importance of environmental issues and alternative energy, proposed seminars for specific industries in order to facilitate economic and technological exchanges and pledged to keep the Mexican Congress informed about developments in these areas. She also urged the legislators to form closer ties with their Brazilian colleagues.

Ms. Paredes’ broad experience in politics and diplomacy was acknowledged by the lawmakers.
