THE ANNUAL MEETING OF AMBASSADORS AND CONSULS TO BEGIN JANUARY 7

The 24th meeting of ambassadors and consuls will be held in the Foreign Ministry from January 7-8. More than 130 ambassadors and consuls are expected to attend.

In order to improve coordination between the various government agencies involved in Mexico’s international activities, members of the legislature and representatives from various areas of the federal and state governments have been invited to participate in the meetings.

The agenda is structured around the five guiding principles outlined for the government by President Enrique Peña Nieto: a Mexico that is at peace, inclusive and prosperous; a Mexico with quality education; and Mexico as an actor with global responsibility. The heads of the areas responsible for achieving these goals will also participate in the meeting.

The program includes two keynote speeches by well-known specialists: one on the trends and challenges of global development and the other on the new instruments and capabilities of digital diplomacy. The National Institute of Statistics and Geography will give a conference to provide the ambassadors and consuls abroad with the most recent statistics on Mexico.

The meetings will conclude with a working lunch on Tuesday, January 8th at the National Palace at which President Enrique Peña Nieto will discuss various foreign policy issues with the Mexican diplomats and discuss the government’s priorities regarding international affairs.

This meeting has been held every year since 1990 to discuss the government’s public policy priorities and, especially, its foreign policy guidelines with Mexico’s diplomats.
