THE FOREIGN MINISTRY COMMEMORATES THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CONTADORA GROUP

• Bernardo Sepulveda Amor will give a talk on the topic.

The Foreign Ministry will commemorate the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Contadora Group tomorrow with a talk given by former Foreign Secretary Bernardo Sepulveda Amor at 1:30 pm. Commentators will include Dr. Luis Alberto Moreno, president of the Inter-American Development Bank, Ambassador Claude Heller and Dr. Ana Covarrubias of El Colegio de Mexico.

A photo exhibit and documentary on the Contadora Group were also inaugurated with the participation of former Central American foreign ministers and leaders who were invited to the event.

For Mexico, the creation of the Contadora Group meant not only the opportunity to contribute to the efforts to achieve peace amongst the Central American countries, but also the institutionalization of its Latin American vocation by means of political dialogue and cooperation, a stance that has been affirmed and strengthened with the creation of the Rio Group and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

The Contadora Group was a Mexican initiative, and our country played a key role in creating the Rio Group and in the process of convergence that led to  the creation of CELAC, whose first summit will be held in Santiago, Chile on January 27 and 28 and which continues the democratic tradition of Contadora, which was developed and enhanced by the Rio Group.
