MEXICO IS RE-ELECTED TO THE BOARD OF THE INTERNATIONAL RENEWABLE ENERGY AGENCY (IRENA) FOR THE 2013-2015 TERM

Mexico was reelected to the board of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) for two more years at the agency’s third General Assembly, which was held in Abu Dhabi on January 14-15, 2013. The board will be installed once all of the regional groups reach consensus agreements on its members.

Mexico was also elected president of the agency’s 4th General Assembly for the 2014-2015 term. The Mexican delegation, composed of the Energy Secretary and staff from Mexico’s embassy in the UAE, were responsible for the success of Mexico’s candidacy.

With 160 member countries, IRENA is the most important international organization for renewable energy. The leadership role played by Mexico in the agency confirms its commitment to the development of technology and investment that strengthens energy security, economic growth, sustainable development and environmental protection through renewable energy sources.
