Today was the last day of Foreign Secretary José Antonio Meade’s working visit to Geneva, Switzerland. During the two-day trip, meetings were held at the most senior level with directors of international organizations and ministers of European countries.
This morning, the Foreign Secretary had a breakfast meeting with African ambassadors accredited to the international organizations in Geneva. The cordial meeting conveyed a clear message to the African continent, with which Mexico seeks to increase its level of dialogue, exchanges and cooperation in a systematic and lasting way.
In addition, the Foreign Secretary met Francis Gurry, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, and Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross. The meetings were important for finding areas of cooperation and strengthening Mexico’s relationships with these international agencies.
The Foreign Minister also met with Karel Schwarzenberg, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic; and Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia. The officials discussed bilateral exchanges with a view to forging closer and stronger ties.
Foreign Secretary Meade then visited the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) where he was received by Director General Rolf Heuer and had the opportunity to greet the Mexican scientists working on projects at the research center.
Lastly, the Foreign Secretary met with international correspondents in Geneva to share the details of his visit.
