ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING BORDER MANAGEMENT GIVEN THE AUTOMATIC CUTS TO THE U.S. FEDERAL BUDGET

The Foreign Ministry reports that it has been notified by the U.S. government that, as a result of the automatic cuts to the U.S. federal budget, it expects that waiting times for crossing the border from south to north will gradually increase. This stems from the limits imposed by the current situation on the staff of various U.S. agencies.

While this scenario persists, it is recommended that the Mexican population take the necessary precautions. The Mexican consulates on the border are in close communication with local authorities in order to facilitate binational coordination and provide information and assistance as necessary. The Foreign Ministry, Tax Administration Service (SAT) and the National Migration Institute (INM) are also coordinating their efforts.

The Mexican government reiterates its commitment to more and more cooperation with the United States so that the border zone can remain a place of opportunity and an engine of regional competitiveness.
