AMBASSADOR JOEL HERNÁNDEZ IS THE NEW PRESIDENT OF THE MEXICAN FOREIGN SERVICE COMMISSION

Foreign Secretary José Antonio Meade appointed Ambassador Joel Hernández García as the President of the Mexican Foreign Service Commission. The commission, created by the Law of the Mexican Foreign Service, addresses personnel issues related to career members of the Foreign Service. Ambassador Joel Hernández replaces Ambassador Angelica Arce, who will receive a new commission.

At the swearing-in ceremony, Foreign Secretary Meade reminded the members of the commission of the importance of strengthening and modernization the Foreign Service, so that its members are more able to implement the foreign policy outlined by President Peña Nieto with dedication, commitment and efficiency.

The Foreign Secretary instructed the newly appointed president of the personnel commission to bear these goals in mind, ensure that the law is enforced and remain alert to the needs of the career diplomats so that they can better perform their duties.

Joel Hernandez joined the Mexican Foreign Service in 1992 and rose to the rank of ambassador in 2008. He graduated with a law degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and holds a Master’s degree in International Law from New York University. He has held various positions in Mexico and abroad, including Legal Adviser of the Foreign Ministry and Permanent Representative of Mexico to the Organization of American States (OAS). His extensive experience has given him a comprehensive understanding of the challenges that face the Mexican Foreign Service.
