APPOINTMENTS IN THE FOREIGN MINISTRY
The Foreign Secretary has appointed Counselor Ana Luisa Fajer Flores as the new Director General for North America. Ms. Fajer has been a member of the Mexican Foreign Service since 1993 and is currently the consul in Saint Paul, Minnesota (USA). Some of her previous positions in the Foreign Ministry include Director General for Africa and the Middle East and Advisor to the Foreign Secretary. She has also worked in the National Migration Institute, the Center for Investigation and National Security (CISEN), the Mexican Council of International Affairs and the Senate.
The Foreign Secretary has also appointed Minister Reyna Torres Mendivil as Director General for the Protection of Mexicans Abroad. Ms. Torres has been a member of the Mexican Foreign Service since 1991 and currently heads the consulate in Fresno, California (United States). She previously served as Deputy Director General of Human Rights and Democracy and as Advisor to the Foreign Secretary, and has been posted to the embassies in the United States and the Czech Republic.
The relationship between Mexico and its North American partners has a direct impact on society. The agendas are broad and diverse and they are addressed together for the benefit of the region.
The Mexican government is working to strengthen regional competitiveness and innovation, effectively manage our border with the United States, promote the ties between our societies and strengthen cooperation on security for our citizens, among other priorities.
In addition, consular assistance and protection is a longstanding commitment of the Mexican government. Meeting the needs of the Mexican communities by taking a preventive approach requires the continuous modernization and expansion of the services provided by our missions abroad.
The Foreign Ministry thanks the previous Directors General, Minister Eduardo Baca Cuenca and Ambassador Roberto Rodríguez Hernández, who will soon receive new assignments abroad. |
