PRESIDENT PEÑA NIETO APPOINTS AN AMBASSADOR TO EGYPT AND A CONSUL GENERAL TO DALLAS
The Foreign Ministry reports that, by virtue of the powers granted him by the Mexican Constitution, President Enrique Peña Nieto has made the following two appointments, which have been submitted to the Senate for its consideration:
Jorge Alvarez Fuentes has been appointed ambassador of Mexico to Egypt and, concurrently and subject to approval, to Jordan, Syria and Sudan.
Alvarez Fuentes has been a career diplomat since 1987. From 2007 to date, he has served as Mexico’s ambassador to Lebanon. Previously, he served as ambassador to New Zealand (1999-2004). Within the Foreign Ministry, he has been Special Adviser in the Unit for Economic Relations and International Cooperation and Director General of the Archives of Diplomatic History.
Álvarez Fuentes has also taught at the Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM) and the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM).
Jose Octavio Tripp Villanueva has been appointed Consul General of Mexico in Dallas, Texas, USA.
He has been a member of the Mexican Foreign Service since 1994, with the rank of Minister since 2012. He is currently serving as Director General of Scientific and Technical Cooperation in the Foreign Ministry. Abroad, he has been the political affairs officer in the embassy in the United States; Consul General of Mexico in Guatemala and in charge of legal and economic affairs at Mexico’s embassy in Costa Rica. |
