THE BOQUILLAS DEL CARMEN-BIG BEND BORDER CROSSING OPENS
The Boquillas del Carmen-Big Bend international border crossing, located on the border between Coahuila and Texas, began operating yesterday. It is part of the comprehensive Big Bend-Río Bravo Binational Park environmental conservation project. The border crossing is open Wednesday through Sunday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for park personnel and tourists visiting the region’s ecological attractions.
The international border crossing was opened as the result of the coordinated efforts of the U.S. and Mexico under the Declaration on 21st Century Border Management; it reflects the commitment of both countries to the environment of the border zone.
In Mexico, the project was made possible through the joint efforts of the National Migration Institute, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas, the Coahuila state government and the Foreign Ministry, with additional support from other agencies.
