THE FOREIGN SECRETARY APPOINTS A DIRECTOR GENERAL FOR FOREIGN POLICY PLANNING

 

Foreign Secretary José Antonio Meade has appointed Gonzalo Canseco Gomez as Director General of Foreign Policy Planning.

 

This area, which will report to the Foreign Secretary, will analyze foreign policy issues and help formulate initiatives, projects and programs that strengthen Mexico's international strategy. It will also liaise with the international affairs community and encourage a dialogue with academics, officials and other experts in order to enrich the process of designing foreign policy.

 

The Foreign Ministry has created this position in order to provide better input into the decision-making process and to encourage institutional innovation.

 

Gonzalo Canseco has a degree in philosophy, politics and economics from Oxford University, where he studied for a PhD in political science. Within the Foreign Ministry, he has worked in the embassies of Mexico to the United Kingdom (political affairs) and France (economic affairs). He was chief of staff in the Foreign Ministry from May 2008 to January 2013.
