FOREIGN SECRETARY MEADE MEETS WITH GUATEMALAN FOREIGN MINISTER LUIS FERNANDO CARRERA CASTRO

 

Foreign Secretary Jose Antonio Meade held a meeting today with Guatemalan Foreign Minister Luis Fernando Carrera Castro.

 

Minister Carrera Castro was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Carlos Raul Morales. The Mexican side was represented by the Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean, Vanessa Rubio Márquez.

 

The foreign ministers agreed on the need to determine the path of the bilateral relationship and dialogue for the coming years, which will include three pivotal areas: 1) bilateral cooperation, 2) a prosperous and secure border and 3) dialogue and cooperation in multilateral forums. They stressed trade and investment, infrastructure for regional integration, cross-border cooperation and prosperity and social development.

 

Lastly, the foreign ministers exchanged views about the 43rd OAS General Assembly, which will be held in Antigua, Guatemala in June of this year and where they will continue their constructive bilateral dialogue.
