SEVENTEENTH MEETING OF MEXICO AND THE UNITED KINGDOM FOR POLITICAL CONSULTATIONS

 

The 17th meeting between Mexico and the United Kingdom for bilateral political consultations was held today in Mexico City. The meeting was co-chaired by the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Carlos de Icaza, and his British counterpart, Minister of State for the Foreign Office, Hugo Swire.

 

Both officials agreed on the excellent state of the bilateral relationship, due to the intensive, high-level dialogue between Mexico and the United Kingdom.

 

During the meeting, the main bilateral issues were reviewed, as were the possibilities for new types of dialogues and cooperation that reflect the importance of Mexico and the UK in the international arena and the increasing cooperation and political and economic ties between the two countries.

 

Mexico and the United Kingdom agreed to work together to design specific cooperation programs to increase educational, cultural, scientific and technical cooperation, including environmental issues. Both parties also expressed their readiness to encourage greater student mobility, which will help to strengthen ties between the two countries.

 

The two officials exchanged views on the current international environment. They discussed the current situation in Latin America and the expectations for the Pacific Alliance.

 

After the meeting, Minister of State Hugo Swire made a courtesy visit to Foreign Secretary Meade.
